APRIL AWARDS LUNCH & SOCIAL
Thirty-four people signed up for our April Social at the New Sarum Diner for lunch but only 33 showed up. This was our Annual Awards Day, in which we recognized our new Life Members, Bill Callahan and Ron Rudy. Unfortunately, Ron was unable to attend due to health problems but Roly attended his residence in Tavistock and presented him with his certificate and card.
Jim Redpath received his Past Chairman pin from our present Chairman John Slavin and Roly Haley was recognized with the first Presidents Award Coin which was presented to him by President Bob Arbour. The guest speaker was Chief Superintendent John Cain from the Western Region. John gave an excellent talk on the evolving job of a police officer and how technology seems to be taking a front seat. Chairman John presented the Chief with a Chapter 2 baseball cap. Also, a presentation was made to the New Sarum Diner of a certificate of appreciation.
A short meeting was held where past Chairman Jim Redpath presented present Chairman John Slavin with the Chapter Gavel. Jim Redpath also nominated Bill Hassel for the Vice Chairman position which was left vacant when John Slavin moved to the Chairman position at the beginning of the year. The nomination was seconded by Roy Lawrence and after accepting the nomination and no other takers, Bill was acclaimed. AMICA RETIREMENT HOME - LONDON
Our June executive meeting was held at the above establishment where they allowed us to use their board room, a very classy place to say the least. In attendance were Chairman John Savin, Vice-Chairman Bill Hassall, Secretary/Treasurer Roly Haley, Director Roy Lawrence. regrets were received from Director Wayne Hallock and Past Chairman Jim Redpath who were unable to attend.
Discussions were held on the locations of future social lunches and Roy Lawrence, Chairman of the Social committee said that finding a suitable location with a private room was very hard these days, but was going to check out Trissa's just east of London Airport on Highway 2 and another couple of places in the tri-county area.
Our newly minted Vice-Chairman is, due to his position, is Chairman of the Health & Welfare committee so if anyone knows of anyone on the sick list or has been hospitalized, please let Bill know. John Slavin advised the Chapter board that the guest speaker at our September Social luncheon would be Norman Silveria, Western Region Manager of Dignity Memorial Sales.
After our meeting, we were given a tour of the facility by Rebecca Sim, Community Relations Director, and following the tour, we were treated to a great lunch, and I must say, we were treated like Royalty. DON'T FALL VICTIM TO SCAMS
The best way to avoid these scams is two-fold. First, when you visit a website, type the URL into the address bar instead of searching for the URL on a search engine. Often times, even if they are malicious, websites will show up in the search results. For instance, if you wanted to go to espn.com, type in www.espn.com in the browser's address bar. Do not go to google.com and search ESPN. Granted you'll likely go to the correct place, but you also may end up on a spoofed site. So, searcher beware.
Also, deploy a security solution that uses an application whitelist. By running a whitelist, only known trusted programs are permitted to execute. Therefore, if you find yourself somewhere you shouldn't be - the malware still cannot run, because it has not been tested and proven secure. roland.haley@gmail.com
